Abu Dhabi: If you love pizza but are bored with the ones you get at food courts in malls, then head to Russo’s New York Pizzeria at the Delma Mall for a great Italian treat.

You can feast on some authentic brick oven pizzas, pastas and more at this Italian eatery that runs on a simple culinary ethic – “If it is not fresh, don’t serve it!”

The first taste of freshness came in a tall glass of chilled passion fruit mojito with muddled mint that felt so refreshing.

For antipasti, we tried eggplant rollatini which had lightly breaded eggplant stuffed with ricotta cheese and all-natural mozzarella, served in a tomato cream sauce, parmesan cheese and extra virgin olive oil.

The buffalo chicken wings were juicy and packed with flavours – exactly the way I like it. The crunchy celeries and ranch dressing made a great bite and dip.

There is a good selection of salads and zuppe as well.

For pizza lovers, the variety is good enough to satisfy even the pickiest of eaters. The pizza napoletana is extra thin, square-crust and prepared and hand-tossed to order. You can pick your favourite from soho, paisano, bresaola rucola and Italian village, to name a few.

The calzones pizzas come stuffed with your favourite ingredient, folded and oven baked and served with a side of marinara sauce. For vegetarians, there is a special ‘heart-healthy veggie pizza’.

Our favourites were New York Village pizza with beef pepperoni, Italian beef, mushrooms, black olives, white onions and mozzarella, and a ‘make-your-own pizza’ we made with grilled chicken and bell peppers. The crust was neither too thin nor too thick, and the toppings, even when you individually tasted them, excelled in their freshness and taste.

I was equally impressed with the chicken pesto pasta as the homemade pesto sauce struck all the right notes on my tastebuds.

For dessert lovers, Russo’s has some amazing homemade cakes like the colossal New York cheesecake that you would want to devour.

The Russo’s menu is sure to get you to over-eat, and that is the only thing you have to be wary of.
